Sean’s Bar
Sean’s Bar is the oldest pub in Ireland and Europe. The front of the bar is what you would expect an old Irish pub would look like. When we walked in, you could tell it was mostly regulars. The smell of the wood burning stove added to the authenticity and the homey atmosphere.
Make sure to walk through the whole bar. When you go out back there is an enclosed patio area. It is also decorated like you are sitting outside in a small town with fake store fronts. In the patio area there is a little loft for more intimate and quiet time. Go further out back and there is an outdoor patio also. Seans is really a unique establishment.
Take time to look at all the police badges hanging up in display cases. The badges are from all over the world. There are also quite a few antiques throughout the bar.
The patrons and bartenders make you feel welcome. We talked a little bit about the history of the Seans. The owner has a list of nearly all the previous owners. Plus, we found out that the owner of Seans is also co-owner of an Irish Pub in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Some of the items that were found during renovations are now in the National Museum of Ireland. One of the items found was old tavern coins. While doing renovations they found a wall partly made of wattle and wicker.
I highly recommend Sean’s Bar. Wish we could have stayed longer as we were having a good time talking with the bartenders, the locals, and other tourists. I really enjoyed my time here, having a pint, and learning about the history of Seans. Don’t ask to buy a pint glass because it is illegal for them to sell.
