The Lobster

Driving around the Ring of Kerry, we decided to stop in Waterville and grab a light snack.  We came upon The Lobster, loved the name, so we decided to give it a try.

I am so glad that we stopped on in.  This is truly an Irish establishment. The Lobster has been around for over 60 years. One of those places you would expect to see in a movie.  We checked out the place and decided to sit in a small room in the far back.  If you get a chance to stop on in, make sure you sit in the far back.

The back seemed to be where the locals hung out.  They slowly made their way in, made themselves at home.  Grabbed a pint, sat down and had a good time.  The whole time these guys kept looking at us.  They had a questioning look on their faces, why are you sitting in this section or why are there women in this section.  Not sure which but they were friendly.  The back room had a wood burning fireplace and made the place seem so homey.  One thing I could not figure out is why the stools at the tables sat so close to the ground.  I would say maybe a foot off of the ground.

The tomato soup was delicious.  It was so smooth and creamy.  The drizzle of herb oil took the soup over the top.  The brown bread that came with it was so soft and full of flavor.  We also had the Caramelized Apple Tart.  The pastry was light and flakey.  The tart was served with vanilla ice cream and cream.  The cream in Ireland is silky, tastes fresher and creamier.  Butter that came with my bread had a sweet and sunny golden flavor.  There is more of a freshness and depth of flavor to the butter than in the United States.  Until you have tried it is hard to explain.
